What does a kitchen remodel cost in San Jose?

The cabinets are the visible cost. The trades stacked behind them are the one that moves the number.

Short answer

A typical kitchen remodel runs $24,000 to $45,000. Genuinely high-end work — moving walls, structural changes, top-tier cabinetry and appliances — runs $65,000 to $120,000+. That upper band is the top of the market, not the middle of it.

Three things that move a kitchen budget

  1. Does a wall move, and is it load-bearing?

This is the single biggest swing. If a wall comes out and it carries load, something else has to carry it instead — a beam, posts, and often engineering plus a stamped detail for permit. Determining this before quoting is the difference between a firm number and a change order after demolition.

  2. Can your electrical panel carry a modern kitchen?

Kitchens need circuits older homes were never built with. If the panel is full or undersized, a service upgrade becomes part of your project — with a utility coordination timeline attached to it.

  3. How is the range hood vented?

Real exterior venting, not a recirculating filter. California requires makeup air above 400 CFM, which is mechanical work that belongs in the plan rather than discovered at inspection.

Where the money goes

Why we publish the range

So you can rule us in or out before anyone spends an afternoon on a site visit. If your number is well under our floor, that is useful information for both of us on day one rather than week three.

We're a builder, not a design firm

If you have plans, we price and build from them. If you need someone to help you choose a layout, cabinet doors and finishes, you need a designer — and we'll say so up front rather than three weeks in.

Common questions

How much does a kitchen remodel cost in San Jose?
A typical kitchen runs $24,000–$45,000. High-end work with structural changes and top-tier finishes runs $65,000–$120,000+.
What makes a kitchen remodel more expensive?
Moving a load-bearing wall, upgrading an electrical panel that can't carry modern kitchen circuits, and relocating plumbing or gas. Finishes matter but are the most controllable line.
Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen?
It depends on the scope and your jurisdiction. Moving walls, changing electrical or plumbing, and altering venting generally require permits. Ask your city directly — the answer varies and guessing is expensive.
Do you design the kitchen for me?
No. We're a builder. If you have plans we price and build from them; if you need design work we'll point you to a designer.
